Credit to Shamz le Roc she is on it. Seemingly always dropping music and often enough being slept on. However her progress is evident for all to see. She is evolving as an artist in broad day light. None of this “Wait till you hear my album and it’s perfect no flaws”. Nah Shamz is more is me, flaws and all but hold my hand and we’ll work through it because i’m ready to share, if your ready to care. I respect that as an artist because it brings the audience along from the get-go, makes your you accessible to your core.
The production value of her music is elevated to a sophisticated and calculated place which is very important in this day and age where appropriation of sounds becomes gimmick. Visually though I still think that is one aspect that is a let down and thats no disrespect to her directors Ramone Anderson and Didyer Zarate as they execute twee very well.
The problem is that Shamz is not twee, she is a much more powerful force which has yet to be captured visually in either this Bus route or the Dino videos. As with evolution necessity will breed invention and when all the right ingredients are there, miss Le Roc will serve up a delicious feast. Just a little more scotch bonnet and less salt – till then we’re firmly sending out our rsvp to that dinner party.
Watch out for her forthcoming debut EP, Incipio.
