“Bounce music is about expressing yourself through dance. Bounce creates an infectious repetitive hook and beat to get the crowd moving .This documentary profiles the phenomenon of Bounce music and traces its origins in New Orleans. Some non-traditional aspects of Bounce can be seen in ‘Sissy Bounce’ where gay rappers , like Nicky Da B, are breaking barriers in stereotypically homophobic spaces. There is a spirit of New Orleans that’s centered on a will to enjoy life and strengthen community ties through dance. Bounce music is a large part of that joy for life.”
Having watched all of the New American Noise series by Nokia this one on NOLA is by far the best, it’s showing something new and progressive. Never in my right mind especially since visiting New Orleans myself have I seen a more sexually tolerant City in the states. This is reflected in Bounce music and superbly put together by ABTEEN BAGHERI.
