Cocaine Rap Blunts used to be my favourite rap blog ever probably still is, only slightly rivaled by the meaning of dope because it chronicled good but mainly great hip hop that was mostly confined to it’s county or state in some cases neighbourhood. Writer and hip hop aficionado Andrew Noz has been spreading the good gospel for what seems an eternity, he is definitely a hero of mine and these are my highlights of his highlights.
The back story begins with what Noz felt about the recent megaupload situation. He found megaupload a safe refuge where he amongst million of others could share music of otherwise possibly never to be heard artists. Here are some mixes he re-uploaded as a form of solidarity towards the culture of sharing free music and mixtapes.
Cocaine Rap Blunts Mix 1
Cocaine Rap Blunts Mix 2
Those first 2 mixes were in aide of hurricane Katrina relief “The first and last of the CB mixes, released as a show of support in the wake of Katrina and in an attempt to shed some much deserved light upon the then completely overlooked (now heavily documented) scene of New Orleans bounce music.”
“A very small selection of the thousand or so songs that Lil B was pushing via Myspace during his productive Based Freestyle period. (This is the only artist sanctioned mix in the series.)”
A-Town Rap & Bass ’85-’92
“A double length look at the Pre-LaFace/Dungeon/Jermaine Dupri days of ATLien hip hop.”
Angelic Wars: The Goodie Mob B-Sides, Cameos & Remixes
“Just what the title says, a gang of non-album Goodie cuts.”
And last but not least
64 Cologne: The Pimp C Productions (2008)
“A non-comprehensive survey of Pimp C’s deep underground production discography.”
Anderw Noz is a legend and pretty much the go to guy for real American hip hop and rap knowledge because he has documented so much unearthed shit. For more of the awesome downloads go HERE
