Don’t Mean To Be Rude is the third single from South African artist, Spoek Mathambo’s debut album ‘Mshini Wam’. The video features the booty-crazed rapper locked in a weird basement with the devil and his dominatrix sidekicks (played by Johannesburg’s grimiest erotic dancers) ; a rigged dice match and some obscure feeder games.
It’s common knowlege that whenever someone starts a sentence with the phrase, ‘I don’t mean to be rude’, you should brace yourself for some low down and dirty rudeness or run for the hills.
Here, Spoek Mathambo brings the rudeness via an accelerated skank courtesy of London bass rangers LV (most widely known for their genre defying releases on Hyperdub). Canadian avant soul singer Zaki Ibrahim. plays the co-conspirator on the bassy nugget adding something sweet to Spoek’s gutter mouth party song.
