Grime aficionado, DJ and producer Slackk steps up to the plate and delivers the first in a (hopefully) long and healthy mix series. Slackk has maintained a steady momentum on the music scene since last year, with a self-released EP and 12″, followed by the Theme EP on Glaswegian hot-bed Numbers. Before that he was on his grind at grimetapes.com, generously sharing links of freestyles and radio shows via t’internet to the grime cyber-community. In a nutshell, if pub quizzes had a grime round and Slackk was in attendance, then well, you might as well screw your answers sheet up and hide under the table.

In just short of an hour, Slackk brings together a pic ‘n’ mix collection of grime, deep percussive house, African house stylings and heavy bass stabs all kicked off by his re-creation of New Edition’s ‘Crucial’. There’s even a remix of ‘From The Ends’ in there that sounds like its ditched the roads to go and dance at a footwork competition…not to mention the stupidly fast but stupidly good Murlo rework of ‘Igloo’, that makes me want to dance like Tshe-Tsha Boy on speed.
