The weekend started with the initial dissappointment of this years loop not being outdoors. Previous festivals being outdoors always added something different than Great Escape for example. Well there was no outside tents this year and the whole festival was confined to the Dome theater, The Corn Exchange and the Pavilion theater, which are great venues in their own right. Probably the best auditoriums in Brighton.

Well not fully needing a blag to scale the heights of Great Escape The lovely Leanne at Bang On PR sorted me out with  a Saturday pass, 2 late night passes and a photo pass. Very kind of her. In the end me and the 7 other i was with all managed to come away with 6 artist passes, 4 press passes, about 50 gold chains and a heap of lesbians. I would say that the Dome was probably the most disappointing venue due to it’s sheer grandness. It swallowed the crowd and most pussies decided to sit so far back they might as well not have been in the room. I personally found the start of the festival a bit uneasy.

It was a shitty rainy day and not many people were around at the 1pm start time. So unfortunately I missed Brighton’s local ‘Heel catch fire’ they are on the cover of this months source. However after the initial first few hours and my free ciders and carlsberg’s I started feeling at home and walked around topless to the delight of many prepubescent girls. RESULT!

The first group I saw were the rather morbid The XX who looked like they would rather be at a funeral but upon meeeting a couple of them later they were actually quite shy and unassuming.

Cant say I payed to much attention to what their music sounded like even if I did i’d leave it up to people to form their own opinions of them. Click on the images for their myspace though. Next up were Man like me who I was quite excited about as when i first encountered them at great escape the whole place was a massive party. Unfortunately they were in a room which was massive and the few people who were their couldn’t quite equate to much of a party more like a hippy convention of 4. They were as bubbly as ever with a new line up but they would have been much better in the corn exchange and much later on the bill.

At this point i was getting heckled by a FATHEAD security guard who later became a friend. But i basically got escorted out of the building to obtain a photo pass so I missed the rest of their set which considering the room was atmosphere-less wasn’t a massive loss. From here on in though everything fell into place, as i got more and more intoxicated I ran into more people who had more alcohol and eventually we were all fairly loved up. Telepathe were the best though. I remember meeting one of the girls at 13 monsters after great escape and giving her a beer. I also said some really embarassing things about being in love with her and downloading a mixtape of theirs. They were super sweet and let us sit in their tour bus as they packed up for Dublin. They also gave us all their artist passes which made things a lot easier. What made my day was the complimments they lavished on me, such as your awesome, nice camera, cool trainers, the list is endless.

My mind was definitely turning to poo poo at this point, it became harder to walk and everything was lovely cloudy. I was also having flashbacks of the night before and swapping clothes with this girl in audio. My simple mind thought this was a dead cert way of getting in her pants but sadly she demanded her clothes back and went home with what I can only say resembled a massive shit.
